  • Randy Richardson

Hi all, I just posted this on FB, but wanted to share it here as well, in case some of you are like me and don't really use FB....  I'll post an update here as soon as I know more.

My dear friend Randy Richardson passed away overnight Friday. I met Randy about a dozen years ago, coaching for the travel FH club Katahdin. Apparently Randy had taken a break from coaching for the club, but he came back when his kids began to play for it. I was so fortunate to have the opportunity to get to know Randy as well as have the chance to coach and watch both of his children grow up to become wonderful humans whom I can now call friends. The Richardson family is one of the kindest I have ever and probably will ever know. His son Nick called to tell me the sad news on Saturday morning, and I am just devastated for the family, and anyone else who knew him, as Randy has touched so many lives and I’m sure enriched them all. He was already sorely missed when he and his wife moved to England two years ago. We were so sad to see him go, as our FH community was left with a deep void after his departure. But looking back, I thank goodness that we were given the chance to acknowledge him and how we felt about him while he was still with us. Nick will let me know about services, and I’ll share that information with the FH world on the website, as FB isn’t really my thing. Thanks for reading this, as I process my own grief for such a wonderful man and friend.

Nick asked the following of those of you who knew and loved Randy: hold onto memories as we will make a Gmail for people to write to if they want to share stories, thoughts or prayers with mum, Meg or myself.

  • ME Elite FH Club (formerly Katahdin) wins Limelight Showcase!!
MEFH ending record:  5-0-0.  ME Elite traveled to the Limelight College FH Showcase, held at Bentley University yesterday.  There were 50 teams competing, with the toughest divisions being 1 & 2 day u19 CLUB divisions.  MEFH u19 Club team was made up of HALF u16 players.  Regardless, MEFH emerged as Champions, after defeating "Total Dutch" from NJ, named for their coaches who come from the Netherlands.

The Championship came down to a sudden death shoot-out, after play resulted in a tie (1-1).  The shooter is given 8 seconds to play the ball from the 25yd line & shoot as many times as possible, until time runs out, or a goal is scored.  Portland HS's Lauren McIntyre easily dodged the NJ GK, but hit the L post with her initial shot.  McIntyre had followed the shot & with the GK down, lifted the ball into the net to score for MEFH.

NYA's GK Elizabeth Coughlin came way out of the net to challenge the Total Dutch shooter, diving to stop the first attempt to get around her.  Knocking the ball away from the shooter a total of 3 times, Coughlin denied the NJ shooter a single shot.

Including the Championship game, the MEFH team scored 13 goals, with only 2 against in the entire day.

    Congrats MEFH Limelight Showcase Team!!

  • Bryant beats Rider in Shoot-out
Senior Captain Kayleigh Ballantyne (Gorham HS, Bryant U) wasn't able to play at the beginning of the season, but is again able to contribute both on & off the field.  Fellow Maine Seniors include Megan, MaKayla & Mallory Hancock (Skowhegan HS, Bryant U), all of whom contributed tremendously to the win over the Broncs.  Megan had 9 saves on 10 shots.  After two 15min OT sessions, she then dominated the shoot-out on behalf of the Bulldogs.  Then Mallory got the scoring started for Bryant in the shoot-out with the 1st of Bryant's 3, compared to Rider's 1.  Congrats to all the Maine players on an incredible Senior season so far!!  The win puts Bryant in the position of being tied for 1st in the MAAC.

Hannah Prince (Gorham HS, UMass Amherst) and former Katahdin Club coach Suz Parks Bourgault were able to see the exciting win.

  • Sharkbait mourns teammate's passing
Vicky Geoffroy, a member of the Women's travel team Sharkbait, passed on Thursday morning Aug 8th.  Below is the Facebook notice posted by her youth FH club (Rye FH Club).

The hockey world lost a true friend with the passing of Vicky Geoffroy yesterday morning, from cancer.  Her steady and calm demeanor that commanded the defense on the field was contrasted by her sincere smile, quick wit and firecracker personality off [the field].  She was that unselfish player that a coach dreams of, ready to sacrifice her body to break up the play, her position so someone could get on the field, and her time to grow the game.  The Rye Hockey Club was privileged to have Vicky as a member during the ladies' inaugural season when she was an integral part of building the team's foundation.  She is forever in our hearts and our memories as an amazing teammate, organizer and friend.  Information on her memorial service is below:

    Saturday August 10th from 2-4pm
